Did you know??
MILWAUKEE -- Chicago Cubs
first baseman Mark Bellhorn became the first National League player ever and
only the second in the Majors to homer from both sides of the plate in one
inning Thursday (Aug. 29, 2002) Bellhorn hit a two-run homer from the right side
off Milwaukee lefty Andrew Lorraine in the fourth inning. In Bellhorn's second
at-bat of the inning against right-hander Jose Cabrera, he turned around and hit
his 23rd home run from the left side, a three-run shot. By Carrie
Muskat / MLB.com
another
article about it:
Mark has power from both sides of the plate and
made major-league history by hitting one home run right-handed and one
left-handed in one inning:
Aug 29, 2002 - Mark Bellhorn became the first player in the National League ever
to homer from both sides of the plate in the same inning as the Cubs beat the
Milwaukee Brewers 13-10. Bellhorn joined Carlos Baerga as the only
switch-hitters in major league history to homer from both sides of the plate in
the same inning. Baerga accomplished the feat in the seventh inning on April 8,
1993, against the New York Yankees. (Amazing MLB Baseball Records)
CBS.Sportsline.com ranked
Mark as number four out of all 2nd basemen - quite an honor!
In the 4
games of the World Series, Mark had an on-base plus slugging percentage of .860,
.870, .830, .844
This is cool - I found this on
Sports Illustrated.com today:
