November 2004
Sox set to re-sign Mirabelli
They'll wrap up details next week

Since looking at
the news on Mark from last December (see Mark's page), I started reading all of
the entries from a year ago - pretty interesting. There were 6 players up for
arbitration that they didn't sign - I hope we don't lose 6 more that way this
year! The coolest news was "Christmas at Fenway" which is when
the first tickets go on sale - it was December 13 & 14 last year - did
anyone go? What was it like? I am going to go this year (who needs
to pay bills when there are Sox tickets to be bought???)
Let's hope there is some news on
signings this week!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I found (and bought-at Borders)
ANOTHER Red Sox book (I can't keep up with them!) - this one is called
"Finally" and it's put out by the Boston Globe - wonderful pictures
and game by game info (playoffs and WS). At the end there is a listing of
every game they played this year with a one-sentence highlight.. Very cool. I also got the DVD there - on sale for $14.99.
Manny's wife and baby are on the
cover of Boston magazine's November issue - but it may be hard to find because
it's almost time for the December issue - Borders didn't have it.
The baby is so adorable - looks just like Daddy! You can see a picture of
it on their website.
As previously mentioned,
I worked at the Wang Theater tonight for the premier of the World Series movie -
did anyone else go? It was so much fun - the whole audience was cheering
throughout the movie, for each player, for Theo, Larry, Johnny Pesky and even
Dr. Morgan! And we laughed a lot too.. Lots of interviews (including a
short one with Mark) and great close-ups - nothing quite like seeing Mark on a
70-foot screen! Terry, Mike Timlin and Trot were there, with the trophy,
and even Wally made an appearance.. You must all get the movie, it's
definitely worth it - I can't wait to see it again. Pam
The official 2005 schedule has been
released - 5 Yankees series, including the first and last of the season; also,
the new ticket prices - field boxes will be $85 now - OUCH!
From the Red Sox Mailbag (RedSox.com)
We're hearing so much about all of the Red Sox free agents,
except Mark Bellhorn. What is his status right now? Have the Red Sox made him
any offers?
It's amazing how many readers asked this question this week. For some reason,
a lot of folks are under the misconception that Bellhorn is a free agent. He's
not. Instead, Bellhorn is eligible for arbitration. The Red Sox have until Dec.
20 to tender him a contract for next season (which essentially means offering
him arbitration). If they don't do so, then Bellhorn would become a free agent.
He is currently the property of the Boston Red Sox. The only way he won't be
will be if the Red Sox decide to relinquish those rights by non-tendering him. (now
we know!)
Gabe Kapler is going to Japan for a year - I'm sad.. he will
be missed..
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello!! Not much news
these days - nobody signed yet.. we will just wait patiently I guess. I
check the various sports sites several times a day, just in case I might miss
something.
Something cute I found out -
my son has a flight simulator, and when he flies over Boston, there's Fenway
Park! It's pretty realistic for a computer game! He said that it
shows Chicago's baseball and football fields also, and Toronto's - pretty cool
to see them.
The World Premiere of
the 2004 World Series movie will be held at the Wang Theater in Boston on
Monday, Nov 22 at 7:30 - tickets are $25 & $50 (and I happen to work
there!) Should be fun!!
SPRING TRAINING SCHEDULE
A tentative schedule was
released today on Boston.com
Free Agent Signings
11/18/04 - I wonder how the
meeting went with Carl Pavano at Curt's house?? If we aren't keeping
Derek, or if Pedro leaves us, I would love to have Carl. And the suspense
of Tek's negotiations is starting to wear on me!
11/16/04 -
Another one of our potential shortstops re-signed with his team today - Cristian
Guzman of Montreal (soon to be Washington); and you probably heard that Pedro
talked to George today (PERISH that thought!)
11/14/04 - Shortstop Omar Vizquel
signed a 3 year contract with San Francisco - I guess that means we don't get
him if Orlando leaves (and he was my next choice!)
11/13/04 - No Sox news yet.. they are making us wait and
worry!

From the Chorus page of the Central
Middle School website, Melbourne, FL - thanks to my good friend Jeff for sending
this to me..
Congratulations,
Tim!
We are happy to
add our congratulations to one of our famous former singers, Tim Wakefield.
Tim is the awesome knuckleball pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. We have
followed Tim's career from Little League!! Tim was an advanced chorus
member, Grand Central Station member, and a Florida All-State Singer!! Tim
is also well-known in our area for his many contributions to worthy causes!!
Definitely still a great all-around guy!

November
11 - meet Billy Traber - a Left-handed pitcher - picked up on waivers from
Cleveland - Welcome to Boston, Billy!!
Nov. 10 -
It's very interesting listening to WEEI sports radio every morning - so many
opinions on the free agent issues - makes me dizzy!
I'm nervous and excited to see what the outcome is. Pam
Tickets
I hear
that the ticket prices may increase as much as 10% - that's OK, I'm still
going! I just hope we can get tickets - I'm sure it will be more difficult
this year. Pam
I
called the Sox office today just to listen to the messages and there is no
information on tickets for the 2005 season yet
Spring Training
This will
be the first Spring Training in a while that I will have major interest in - I
haven't followed baseball this closely in a LONG time!
They are going to play some games in the Dominican Republic - I wish I could
go! Pam
Check
out the Spring Training online site (on the Links page) for up-to-date
information
