From May 3 - which I was never able
to update due to server problems:
And now for more information:
Thank you to Victoria Diane for
emailing the Sky Sox:
Does Mark Bellhorn play for
the Sky Sox? I read somewhere that he did, but I never see his name on a
roster. Thanks....
Victoria Diane
and the answer:
It’s a coincidence that you would e-mail us today to ask us about Mark
Bellhorn. He had not been playing with the Sky Sox before today but the
Rockies just signed him as a free agent and assigned him to our team. He
should be arriving today.

OK - Now for some good news!! Mark
has been signed by the Colorado Rockies (minors):
Again, my readers have come through
when I couldn't find any information!
Thank you to Lisa:
Colorado Rockies Signed:
2B Mark Bellhorn, 2B Luis Gonzalez
This is Luis A. Gonzalez, the 29-year-old
Venezuelan utilityman who last appeared in the big leagues in 2006 with the
Rockies. Colorado sold his contract to Yomiuri in 2007 and the righthanded
batter managed a .283/.332/.422 line in
two Central League seasons,
production that isn’t too far off from his stateside big league output. As
for Bellhorn, the 34-year-old switch-hitter fared modestly as a Dodgers’
minor leaguer last season, batting .242/.357/.420 for Double-A Jacksonville.
Los Angeles released him in July.

And James:
And Kristen:
I've been following your site for a few years, since Bell was
with the Sox. I found this information online over the weekend
and I thought you'd be interested in it. Thanks for maintaining
the site, I enjoy checking in periodically for updates on Bell's
status in baseball! Thanks again.
and Kara:
FYI- Bellhorn signed to minor league deal March 3, 2009 | 8:58 am 2
By Jack Etkin
Veteran second baseman Mark Bellhorn signed a minor
league contract with the Rockies and will report to spring training with
the minor league position players March 13. If he breaks camp with
Triple-A Colorado Springs, it will be Bellhorn’s second tour in the
Rockies organization.
Bellhorn, 34, originally came to the
Rockies from the Cubs in June 2003 for infielder Jose Hernandez. That
season, Bellhorn played 16 games for Triple-A Colorado Springs and 48
for the Rockies. He last played in the major leagues in 2007 when he
played 13 games primarily in August with the Reds, his seventh major
league team.
Last season, Bellhorn played 59 games at Double-A
Jacksonville, a Dodgers’ affiliate. Even though he hit just .242,
Bellhorn’s on-base percentage was .357. Drawing walks has always been a
plus of Bellhorn, never more so than in 2004 when he played 138 games
for the world champion Red Sox. Bellhorn hit .264 that season with 177
strikeouts but his 88 walks helped him finish with a .373 OBP.
In
minor league camp with the Rockies, Bellhorn will have to show he can
hit to make the Sky Sox. And even then, how much he’d play with them is
uncertain, since Eric Young Jr., a prospect, figures to be the starter
at second base.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE NEWS!
and hopefully some new pictures..
Hello.. It seems
that this Brewers tryout didn't amount to anything.. I can't find ANY
news anywhere, but I'm not giving up yet.. I'll keep checking, and I
know you all will too!
Finally - some news - thank you so much to
Kara for sending this:
The Brewers are holding an open
tryout in Arizona on Jan. 13 for former
big leaguers and others trying to get to the majors.
Simon, a first baseman by
trade, will be one of those auditioning, as well former
big-league infielder Mark Bellhorn.

And thank you to Diane for this:

Thank you to Diane
for sending this - it's so cool!

More
apologies - I missed Mark's birthday because I was on vacation and not near
my computer.. So, Mark, if you see this - HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!

by Alexis, and I totally missed them - I'm SO sorry..
Sadness...
The Dodgers have
released left-hander Matt Riley and veteran major league infielders Ramon
Martinez and Mark Bellhorn.
Bellhorn, 33, a key
member of Boston's 2004 World Series champion, was let go after playing 59
games for double-A Jacksonville, where he hit .242.
Now what??
Kelly's back!!
Check this out:

and she brought this
to my attention too:

Thank you Kelly!!!
Thank you so much to Debbie for these pictures!!

Thank you to Paula for
finding this article:
This has Mark's picture and a little bit about him in it. He looks GREAT!!!

Here are a couple of
e-mails I've received:
from
Debbie:
Pam,
I have been following your website for a couple of years now. First of all,
thanks for keeping us up to date on Mark. I hadn't checked your site for a
couple of months (before today), but last night my family and I were at a
Carolina Mudcats game and they were playing the Jacksonville Suns. Low and
behold, there was Mark Bellhorn, #29 playing first base! After the game I
got him to sign my ticket and we tried to take a picture with the camera
phone and it didn't come out. They will be back her in June, so we will go
again, and I will try to get a picture for you guys.
Thanks again for keeping the website!
and
more from Evan:
Just continues to mystify me
how in an ultra-competitive game like
baseball, with entire staffs of people involved in finding some way to
improve ones team, that a guy like this ends up with exactly two chances
(roughly full seasons) to produce, does so both times, and yet *still*
can't buy himself a decent job on someone's roster.

I have moved most of the
items from this page to THIS location,
since this page was getting quite long! Hopefully I'll be able to fill this
one up again :)

It's so nice to have
something to report again!
Very nice article
HERE
``````````````````````````
Finally, some news:
First,
THIS article (thank you Mandi!)
Then today, from
Linda (thank you!):
Mark is with the Jacksonville Suns (Dodgers). He is officially on the
roster now.
And
thank you also to Evan, who wrote:
It seems he's signed on with
the Dodgers on a minor league contract, and
is scheduled to report to AA Jacksonville. I'm not sure what the
organizations plans are for him (to my knowledge he isn't being signed
for an eventual callup), the signing was completely under-the-radar (not
even reported in the usual locations that post Dodger-related news).
GOOD
LUCK MARK!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I haven't heard from Kelly in awhile, but I found
THIS while looking up info on Mark
According to FoxSports.com, Mark is
now a free agent after refusing a minor league assignment.
and from ESPN:
Reds - October 11:
Announced infielder Mark Bellhorn, outfielder Jason
Ellison and pitcher Kirk Saarloos have elected free agency.
Mark ended
the season quietly with the Reds
I will of
course keep this site going for as long as Mark is playing baseball anywhere!
Keep in
touch, and we will all wait for further news together

almost 4 years ago
Aug 29 2004 Red Sox 5, Tigers 1
Martinez allowed a run in seven
innings and
Mark Bellhorn doubled, scored one run and drove in two as the
Red Sox remained red hot with a 5-1 triumph over the Tigers.
Bellhorn contributed to both of
Boston's rallies, delivering an RBI groundout in the fifth and a run-scoring
double in the seventh. He is 10-for-30 with five RBI in eight games since
being activated from the disabled list on August 21.
Nice
memories!

From Cory...
I just wanted to send you a
picture of a drawing that I did of Mark a few years back that he autographed
for me. I think your website of him is really cool. It keeps me up to date
with my favorite player! I sure do miss him in Boston...
Thank you
Cory! It's wonderful!!
